Anyone ever adapt one of these to fit a Y Block? Could have sworn that I saw somewhere where it has been done.

While I don't remember ever physically laying a FE windage tray on a Y, I don’t picture it even coming close to working. There is a FE windage tray in one of the storage buildings and if it’s easily accessible, I’ll lay it on a Y and see just how bad a fit it really is. On my end and for the Y engines needing a windage tray, I’ll use directional screen in the oil pan or incorporate the windage tray into the main support girdle.

I put a windage tray in my oil pan. There are two pairs of 3/8 UNF bolts brazed threads into the side of the pan opposite each other at about the #2 and #4 main bearing. Then a bracket fabbed from 1/8 x 1 1/4 flat bar goes between each pair of bolts. Each bracket has a bow downwards the radius on the same centerline as the crank but larger. The plate is a special kind of SS perforated plate called Gill Plate. It is not on the market but is very like what is offered by typical oil pan vendors. It is 1mm thick and pretty stiff. This plate is also formed into a radius to match the crank but larger (ie the center of the plate radius is the same as the crank centerline when installed). It is bolted to the brackets so that the bolts end up under #2 & #4 main. All fasteners are wired secure. The plate actually extends above the pan flange into the block when the pan is installed. I don't have any drawings or pics of it but it has been in my motor for a long time with no trouble.
