i have a 56 312 passenger car engine. i also have 3 distributors.

one- 54-56 early style with breaker plate springs (condition not good, sloppy shaft)

one- 57-59 style with straight arm vacuum advance (condition okay, shaft hard to turn)

one- 60 style with curved arm vac. advance and pivoting plate (condition okay)

can i use any one of these after i replace the points, condesner etc.?

i have no car for this engine. it came extra with the 59 truck i purchased.

i'm not sure what i'm going to put this into. so distributor height isnt an issue yet.

any input welcomed.

thanks!

Davis:

The first one is virtually usless unless it is paired with the original type carburetor.  Even at that, it is barely acceptable.  Further, if it is a '54, the oil pump drive will be a flat tang instead of a hex shaft.  Take your pick of the other two, either one can be made to work fine with any carburetor and engine combination.
