Just wondered what changes you have made in your car from previous years? It seems to be getting faster each year. How about a description of engine and drive train? You have a 6 speed trans now instead of a top loader?  13.27 on street tires is fast for any type  of car, much less a non-performance y-block!  Congratulations!

Hey Gary , I'll second that motion. Did you take any photos when you did the gearbox swap ???How difficult was it ?? It sure would be nice to see a write-up in the Tech section .I'm betting there would be heck of a lot of "Y " guys out there that in YBF-land that would be interested in your 6 speed conversion ? By the way , are you still taking good care of my Sunliner ??? Regards LON

The tranny swap was no easy feat,it required splitting the trans tunnel and welding a two inch wide strip of of similer medal back in place to allow more room for the larger 6speed.The x member had to be modified as well and the rear section of the transmisson had to be trimmed a little. This all required pulling the engine and trans out many times for cutting, measuring, and welding to have a good fit and make sure the car is stronger than before. The engine has mummert heads, blue thunder intake, comp cam,has been blue printed bored and stroked and seems to run better the more I work on dialing it in.I didn't run it as hard as I could because I wasn't finished with my set up including the extra motor mount on the drivers side wasn't attached the the head so I kept my launches somewhat muted. The sixspeed works great! Was it worth it? You bet.Would I do it again?absolutely.

Thanks for the information, I was particulary interested in the cam. I saw on your profile in Y-block mag that there is more lift and duration on the exhaust. Is this the only cam you have run and do you think it is good solution for the Y-blocks breathing problems?  And what is up with the battery?  How does it work on the street? Will be intereted in the ET once you get thing sorted out a little better. Great job!

Gary, I am running a slightly different cam grind now. Duration @ .050 lift intake and exhaust is 241°. The running duration is 267°. Gross valve lift .532 less lash .016 = .516. Lobe separation gt;107°. With a good set of heads that breathe well you don't need to vary lift. The small battery works well out in the driving world but I've installed my other battery to save this one for racing. The small one is right pricy ($177) counting shipping and you're only saving approx 20 or so lbs.
