Y-Guys       My son came up with an adapter that reduces 18mm plugs

down to 14mm plugs. The Champion #J-202 but, I haven't been

able to locate any. Anyone seen these or something simular?

(Looking for easier way to change plugs, plus more heat range

             availability)     Thx Bill

Bill:

Those were available from Ford back in the '50s.  I haven't seen them since then.  I'm not sure why Ford offered them, unless it was for use when a '55 head replaced a '54 so that the plugs would be the same on both sides.  When they ran out of '54 replacement heads, they made a special head gasket and used '55 heads on '54 engines.

Hey Bill,  There is an outfit called Garrett Machine & Welding that sells the adapters like you mentioned.  Don't know the price, but they can be reached at 541-259-2514.  There are other suppliers I've heard of over the years, but I've never bought any.  I was told that someone sells them in both steel and bronze.

There are also suppliers that advertise them for old Harleys, but you don't want those.  They used an 18mm plug with a gasket, not a tapered seat plug like the Y-blocks and FE's.

I've been planning to try a set of the adapters to broaden the choices of spark plugs (and heat ranges) for our cool Y-blocks.
