Previous owner installed what I believe to be a 53 Crestliner steering wheel on my 55 Fairlane.

I finally figured out that there are 4 screws through the back of the steering wheel that hold the horn ring on.  I have the horn ring off.

Now I'm trying to get the steering wheel itself off the shaft/splines.  I've got a puller and I've cranked on it up about as hard as I feel comfortable with.  Just wondering if I'm missing something, as it shows no sign of breaking free.   I guess I can keep cranking on the puller, but how bad are some of those old steering wheels to remove?  I've never had this kind of trouble before, but never worked on a steering wheel this old.

Help!

Edit/P.S.  Yes, I loosened the nut holding the steering wheel on.

keep the nut on but loose, when the puller is tight and with the nut backed off a few threads  past the end of the shaft, take your 3lb hamer and give it a smack. go threw a few practice moves as you mant to hit the nut right on . it will snap off . revmove the nut and you hav won
