Can anyone recommend an inexpensive tool (make/model#/supplier) that works well on a loose, unsecured Y-Block head?

The custom altered example Jerry Christenson depicts in YBM #73 looks fast, but I have time to waste. I don't want to experiment and end up with a drawer full of tools that don't work (like him). I also understand that some require more strength to operate than I may be capable of (torn rotator cuff).

Won't the normal C-Clamp type work on a Y Block? Make or buy the head holders that hold the head off the bench. Maybe you can rent one, or see if some one like NAPA has a loaner.

Oreily's had the same deal, they will lend you one for free.

Good idea. If they have a deposit, likely they won't care how long you keep it. Good way to try different types. I'll check if maybe the local rural auto parts stores offer that service
