I heard I can swap out my stock 272 distributor that sucks for the one out of a 64 f 100 292 and it would be a direct fit. Anyone know any info on this?

Yes, It is a direct fit.  Enjoy your holiday weekend.

If your 272 is a '55 or '56, this is a worthwhile swap.  If your 272 is a '57, there would be no advantage.  If you use the '64 (actually any '57 or later distributor works), you will have to change your distributor cap and rotor to the '57 and later style.  Otherwise the swap is a drop in.

One thing I will add ... If you are running a carburetor that is original to 1954, 55, or 56, it has a vacuum signal that runs to the distributor that was made to MATCH the vacuum advance only original distributor. If you update your distributor (most of us do), then get a 57 or later carb, OR leave the vacuum port on the carb blocked off and just use the mechanical advance on the distributor, OR modify your original carb. Ted Eaton (also on this site) has excellent, well-written articles with photos that concern the HOW of going about the modification of your original carb signal to match updated distributors.

I scratched the factory 2 barrel and went with the holley 650 4 barrel on a thunderbird manifold. Hopefully I'll be good.
