i couldnt give this away. i ran the #'s and checked the crank and then found out its a 312.
probably from a 56 fairlane?
not bad for an extra "throw-in engine" with purchase of a 59 truck.
what should i look for as potential problems. not sure why it was partially taken apart.

Davis: the first thing to check on a 312 block, is to examine the main bearing area around the cap bolts for possible cracks or stripped threads. Unfortunately.. Ford originally issued a torque spec which was to high in 1956. ( I won't repeat it, or sure as h-ll someone will use it!) This fact along with the tendency for some rebuilders to add some to the spec, led to cracked blocks or stripped threads. I don't know what the engine gurus on this site recommend as a maximum torque spec on the 312 main caps, but the Street Rodder/ Classic Truck series of some years ago, stated 90 lbs. maximum! And if reassembling the engine be positive you are using the correct length bolts in the correct holes!.. A good reference to rebuilders is John Mummert's Ford Y-block site, a link from this site, to his page, "assembly errors"... (from Vancouver B.C.)
