I have a 55 Club Sedan, 292 C2AE .060 over block, G heads, Fordo transmission, original 55 t barrel carb, 62 Ford passenger car distributor, vacuum advance hooked into the intake manifold, running Autolite 46 plugs. The motor is all fresh, and has about 100 miles. So...I decided to pull a few spark plugs to see how we are burning, though I could not notice any pings, knocks, etc. under hard acceleration. Everything seems fine, and the performance is wonderful.

All of the spark plugs I pulled have a light orange coating all over the ceramic, but otherwise appear ok. Is this coloring normal? I don't remember ever seeing the plugs this color.

I am using 93 octane fuel.

orange to light brown is what you want.

Dan, from your description of your old motor, I suspect that you are accustomed to looking at black and greasy plugs.

Cactus - well, you are very close - plugs with a little bit of soot on them anyway! But no carbon deposits here - she is burning really clean.

So much for not being used to a motor that burns the fuel mixture well - either I am learning how to tune this thing right, or the old principle "the blind hog finds an ear of corn every once in a while" is still true. Tongue

PS - Cactus - I mailed off the info on the Apple Blossom car show. You should get it soon.
