1959 292 Exhaust Manifold Studs?

Hello, the bolts the come out of the exhaust manifolds on my 1959 292 engine, the ones that connect to the exhaust pipes, are they studs? I broke one today. And I'm trying to see if I can screw it out or if its permanently in there.

They are studs.IME the best way to get a broken one out is to pull the exh manifold.If there is enough stud sticking out heat the manifold around it,I usually use a 0 tip on my torch for this, and try unscrewing the stud with a pair of visegrips.If this doesnt work drill a small (1\8" or so) hole clear through the broken stud as near centered as you can get it,then drill the hole out to fit a" hard out" (whoever named them "easy out" was a sadist) reheat and try to remove the broken stud.if this doesnt work drill the hole out with progressively larger bits until you just have a thin shell left that can be picked out.Good luck.When installing exh studs or nuts a little anti seize compound on the threads will prevent this from ever happening again.HTH

Thanks for the advice. I got the stud out today, now I just need to find a new one. Are they for sale anywhere? I know you can get studs anywhere, but ive done a google search and haven't found any specifically for my y block. I guess it'll have to be trial and error eh?

try the local NAPA store.That is where I get mine.

Napa had a very limited stock, but the counter clerk told me about a place called King Bolt in Covina, California and they pulled one off the shelf for me in a matter of minutes. Good place to check out if you're in the area.

Now I just need to find those exhaust manifold bolt locking tabs things. I can't find those for sale anywhere. Does anyone know where they sell them?
