How many of you would be interested in buying repop Fenton headers for your Y? I need fairly solid numbers of those that would really want a set. They can be done but the initial order would have to be 200 or so sets to get the pricing reasonable. Any takers? Chuck

Chuck: Pegleg talked with the people who sell the flathead Fentons, they were mildly interested in working with him. I don't know how that stands now, it's not really any of my business. However, I believe those people own the rights to the Fenton name. I hope that's the people you are talking to. I'd hate to see legal repercussions over this project. John

No legal worries! If I didn't go with the owner of the Fenton name I'd produce some similar with a different name. Apparently I am talking to the same people. What they need is a proven interest in the project as initial costs seem to be very high. Their market for the Flathead and Stovebolt headers is 500 plus a year! I wouldn't have believed it! Who really wants a Scrub 6? If I could find a set of good Fentons or CAD drawings of them I have a local guy that would work up a price for casting. He can't estimate price without seeing them. Of course they wouldn't be "Fentons". Possibly an improved flow model? Any help appreciated. Chuck in NH

Call or write him and let him know if your interested in a set! Maybe he'll put them back into production. I can't believe he can sell 500 plus for Flatheads and Scrub Stovebolts without selling a similar number for Y-blocks. Especially with the revitialized interest we've seen over the past few years. Anyway if you really, really want a set here's our chance to give it a try! Chuck

Chuck: Same people, same conversations. Good luck with your project. Some high flow modern design manifolds may prove to be more popular with the go fast types, as the Fentons would sit well with the "period correct" concours guys. If you study the original Fentons, they would probably be considered marginal in performance applications. They are basically streamlined versions of the original manifolds, but not really larger inside. 500 sets a year??? WOW!!!!!! John

Chuck, Getting the castings made isn't the problem. The tooling to cast them would be about $10,000 here. The fella who owns the name, doesn't want to allow someone else to use it. So you provide the sources and he gets them made, and gives you a cut(?) Good luck. Frank

As much as I hate to admit it one of my high school cars was a tiesan red 51 Chevy, nosed, decked, lowered, rear door handles shaved and powered by a 270GMC 6 banger. Split manifolds with two 1 barrell carbs and Mallory ignition. Yes it did sound great, no I don't really miss it! Chuck

FWIW, I saw a set of new Fenton Headers on a GMC OHV 6 engine on an engine stand this morning, and they had to be trimmed in a few places to make them fit.

The early Fentons are a cast manifold simular to the stock exhaust. They are a little smoother flow and I believe a bit bigger interanlly. Chuck

Patrick's is looking into re-creating the original Fenton Headers for Y's. As I understand it, that will constitute a version for the passenger cars and one for the T'Bird. He owns the Fenton name, and closely controls any use of it. I had contacted him about a year ago to see if he would consider allowing me to reproduce the castings with that name. We were unable to come to an agreement, although I could be involved in obtaining castings. Time will tell on this. The Chev 6 and Flathead castings are made overseas, while mine are made in the US, so it is often difficult to compete pricewise. The more interest that folks express to Patrick, the more likely he is to pursue this, so letters and phone calls will help seal the deal. On the bright side, this is another example of renewed interest in out favorite engine, and that's a good thing! Frank/Rebop

Please call or email Patricks! I've talked with him and he is an old racer. He thinks the market would be too small to justify making the Fentons for Y-Blocks. He sells 500+ Fentons for 6 banger Chevys each year! Chuck
