Piston ring

Hey guys I have a 292 .030 over while putting piston rings on I broke the lower compression ring. The replacement I got did not have the bevel on the top side of the ring it was just flat against the cylinder wall. Will this cause a problem or will it be all right to use.

As long as you install it in the proper orientation, according to the manufacturer, it will work fine.

The manufacturers instructions are always the way to do it, regardless but most of the time the 2nd ring has a notch or step along the outside edge rather than a bevel and the notch goes down.  It is important that you install all of the rings properly, so double check.

Can the top compression ring and lower compression ring be switched?

No.  They must go in the correct grooves and in the correct orientation within each groove.

Bevel up on outside sounds wrong to me but if the manufacturer has designed otherwise then they will mark
the ring as to which way is up. I was taught that with bevel or step rings. Inside up outside down.

If your original second ring had an inside bevel, then that bevel should have been facing down.  As a general rule and with inside beveled rings, the top rings are installed with the bevel facing up while the second rings are installed with the bevel facing down.  Always look at the instructions that come with the rings for verification of how they are to be installed.

If your replacement second ring has no bevel and no marks indicating ‘top’, then the ring can be installed in either direction.

It hasn't been mentioned here, but I always stagger the end gaps so that no two rings on the same piston have aligning end gaps.
