On my 57 Bird the gas gauge quit all at once. I checked the wire going to the sender for voltage and it pulsates just like a turn signal. Is this normal? If not any ideas what would make it do that?

That's normal operation for Ford gauges. Checking it with the light like you did tells you the voltage control is working, the current is flowing thru the gauge & the wiring is good. Next step is to turn the key on and ground the wire going to the sender. Then check the dash gauge. It should read full or above full. If it does it usually indicates a bad sending unit. You could have a bad ground at the sender too. You could hook up a ground wire between the sender & a good ground then check to see if the gauge works. Another place it will lose its ground is between the gas tank itself and the body. Hope this helps.

Thanks! It was a bad ground from the tank to the frame.
