My starter seems to have a Bendix issue. The Bendix is extended and engages the flywheel. I am hesitant to reinstall it with this issue. I have heard that they will "pop" back once the engine fires. The starter is currently on the bench. I have removed the Bendix assembly but am not sure how to proceed.
Also,
I just had my stock heads milled slightly to take care of a foreign object in the combustion chamber issue. When I bolt the heads back on do I have to do anything different with the rocker shafts,pushrods,etc? What is the sequence for adjusting the rockers?

If you can get the starter installed, it will be fine and will rertract once the engine fires.  You can also retract the drive, put it back on the starter, and hold the teeth against a spinning wire wheel on a bench grinder.  Spin it in the direction that makes a ratcheting sound, not trying to turn the starter motor.  If you get enough speed on the drive, it will retract.  The starter will be easier to install with the drive retracted.


Your rockers and pushrods should re-install fine, and standard adjustment procedures will work.

Yes but they don't have that old y block starter whining sound

I just installed a mini and it was not a bolt in install. Grinding the block and the starter adapter to fit and bushed the 7/16 holes to fit the 5/16 bolts. It actually took longer to put in the starter then to change the 9 inch center section.
