About to start some work on a 1955 Sunliner . Car isn't here yet and I'm trying to get some parts together. It is a 272 two barrel car , would that be a Loadomatic distributor in that or was that only a 4bbl deal ? If it was Loadomatic can I use a later distributor (non Loadomatic) with the original 2bbl carb ?

The Load-O-Matics were used on all FoMoCo Ys from '54 through '56, Pete.
In switching to a later '57 to '64 FoMoCo distributor you will need to modify the original '55 two barrel carburetor so that the correct vacuum signal is supplied to the distributor vacuum canister.
Ted Eaton has an EXCELLENT write up on his web site to help you accomplish this.
