I am curious about the location of the tail pipes on a '55 Club sedan.  Specifically from the axle back in relation to the shock ,the spare tire well, and frame on the passenger side and the shock, the gas tank, and frame on the drivers side.  All of the hangers have been removed on my car.  Daniel, you're working on a '55 as we speak.  Are the tailpipes intact on your car?

Thanks.

Mark: Is it possible to see where the hangers were mounted as a guide?  On 57s equipped with duals, apparently the original pipes at the back, were routed thru the springs to exit on the outside. But, I don't know if that applies to a 1955..

On my 2 door ‘55’s with dual exhausts, there are only two hangers on each pipe.  On each side, a dual strap hanger is coming off a bracket mounted mid-frame behind the mufflers and the other hanger (single strap model) attaches at the very back of the frame. The mid frame mounting point is even with the rear edge of the doors.

Thanks Ted and Paul.  I see two bolt holes on the rear cross member just inside the frame rails. This I assume is the rear attachment point Ted is referring to.  What I am most curious about though is the route the pipes take from in front of the rear axle to the back of the car.  I managed to find some views of the underside of some cars and it appears that the pipes run between the rear shocks and the frame rails as they loop over the rear axle.  Then run between the frame and the spare tire well on the passenger side and between the frame and the gas tank on the drivers side.  These views were of modified cars so I am wondering if this is the stock configuration?

Thanks

Just saw your post... ditto on Ted's statement on the 55 Club Sedan I am working on.

The 55's tailpipes are OEM Replacements that I did myself back in 1993.  They are in excellent shape, but I did install glasspacks. I will get you a photo or two next time I am under there. (need to do that anyway - good excuse to tackle the Fordomatic removal). Tongue
