Has anyone used their "Perfect Fit Kit" for a 55/56 Ford passenger car with a Y block? If so, what EXTRA did you need with the kit to complete you installation?

I don't know about Classic Air, but Vintage Air has several "Sure Fit" kits offered by Summit..

If anyone who has pictures of their installation from any manufacture I would love to see them especially on a 56 car. Things I'm looking for is if you mounted the compressor where the generator in now and placed the gen/alt on top and if you could use the stock interior controls. The photo on Classic for a 55 show a later small block Ford engine. You would think when selling a unit for a Y-block they would show one.
Vintage uses the stock controls on their 55 Scrub and only has a dual opening in the center and a ball style at each end. My friends also has the heater built into it. Stock defroster ducts work and the installation is real clean inside but I personally don't like the high mount compressor. Any photos will be appreciated. I would have no problem fabricating mounts for a low compressor . My crank pulley is already a 3 pulley...Thanks

While I can't speak for 55-56 Fords, the kit for the Thunderbirds is pretty complete. Stock controls are used with modification and some practice is needed to know what's happening where, it ends up with a clean look. The engine mount for the sedan is going to be a little different than the 'Bird because of spacing, but mine retains the low mount for the alt/generator with the compressor in front of the passenger side head.

Looks like Street and Technical have this both going on.
I have seen T-Bird units both with the alt/gen on the bottom and top. They definatly have more room in the front of the eng that's why I'm hoping some one here can post pict for the full size car. I did search the internet and found one pict of a y-block 56 with a high alt and the car had A/C; but I could not see it's mounting. The alt was mounted out far enough to use the 3rd pulley on the crank. I'm guessing the 1st pulley was the A/C unit. Not sure if you can move the PS back a pulley width.
I usually over plan everything and this will be no exception. If I combine the A/C with the heater some new room will appear on the right side of the engine bay. I like thing to appear pretty stock but exceptions need to be made to do a clean installation. Thanks All......

I have fitted Classic Auto Air to my 55. The only drama with the instal is their diagram which accompanies the mounting bracket which is a Vintage Air setup. I don't know what engine they fitted the brackets to, but I ended up making my own spacers. They say you can run the system on a single v belt but I don't believe that. I got hold of a two sheave harmonic balancer and a double water pump pulley. I used a Delco Alt. and fitted a dual belt pulley to that also. With those mods it all fits well and lines up perfectly and allows me to run a two belt setup. The belt adjustment is via the alt.. Yet to run the engine. Fits nice and neat in the engine bay.

I was skeptical of the one belt set up, but it's worked fine on my bird. No slipping so far. I'm running an electric condenser fan (from Classic's kit) as well as an electric radiator fan. Even with both on and the interior fan on high, it gives a full voltage charge. Surprised me.

rick55..Thanks for the photos. This site never ceases to amaze me. Someone has already done what I think is pretty "trick" and for me it's better to ask and give credit than reinvent the wheel. Your set up is perfect. hard to believe it would all sit in front of the engine like the T-Bird without the extended front housing. Making mounts for me is no big thing I just didn't think it would all fit. As you can read in another thread I'm working on a dual quad setup and I didn't anything sticking up to take away from it.....Thanks again

Pat, on this site, was running a 57 with an AC and a VR-57 supercharger. So pulley set up can be done. Chuck
