I tore my truck apart over a year ago to overhaul it. Well now that I got it back together and have the engine back in I can't quite remember the starter and starter silinod hookup. Is the start or positive to ground? And do the positive go to both sides of the start or silinod? Once I hooked it up all I got was a buzzing notice when I turned the key. Any advice would be aprieciated.

If 12v neg earth, heavy lead from battery positive to large terminal on side of starter solenoid, heavy lead from other side of solenoid to starter motor terminal.
Wire from ignition switch to top small terminal on solenoid closest to battery terminal (usually).

Ray I did a quick search of images on the internet hoping that I could find an image that would simplify this for you but unbelievably I could not. If your truck is newer than 1955 and I seem to recall that it is, then as Slick56 mentions, you have a negative ground system. Following up on what Slick 56 has told you and looking at the solenoid with the mounting tab at the top and the wiring terminals on the bottom facing you, then the large terminal on the left goes to the + terminal of the battery. The large terminal on the right goes to the starter. The small terminal on the left goes to the start terminal on the ignition switch and the small terminal on the right goes to the coil. However, having said all this I seriously recommend that you obtain a shop manual for your specific truck and look for a picture or drawing of the set up for your truck. The buzzing could be a faulty solenoid, but you don't want to make a mistake in the wiring and set your truck on fire. Electrical fires from faulty wiring are common.

As far as the small wires on the Solinoid go, the Red one will be the left one from the ignition switch, the right one brown but it does not go directly to coil, it first goes through the ballast resistor and looking at my 58 the wires change color at the ballast to red, you then have 2 wires to the coil, one directly from ignition for start on 12 volt and then when the key is let back to on position voltage is reduced through the ballast to give the coil 6 volt for normal operation.

Make sure your battery is fully charged. I buzzing sound could also indicate a low battery
