Spark plug wires question

I am replacing the sparkplug wires on the ford 272 engine while the engine is on the stand so it will be much easier. The metal brackets on the old wires do not come apart so how do you put new wires on to the brackets that holds the wires on the back of the engine. I would image that would be twice as hard running the wires when the engine is in the vehicle. thank you

If you look closely at the brackets, you will see that they are actually formed from flat stock, bent into the square or rectangular shapes, and have a couple of small tabs bent over where the beginning and end of the sheet metal straps are.  This is near where the bolt holes are.  By bending those ears up a little, you can open up the metal straps to change the grommets and/or the wires.  Squeeze them back together and bend the ears back down when you are through.

You dont need to bend anything.If you squeeze the holder in a vice(gently) the interlocking tabs will release.Reverse procedure to reassemble.From the Ford shop manual!

Cool The metal parts are cad plated,so if your liking a showy engine,you can buff them,and they will shine like chrome,put some clear over that and it will sty shine for some time.

I did this years back,and it looks cool a long with other stuff to.
