Holun - So now that you have the timing glitch figured out, are you going to leave the big carb on there?
By HoLun - 19 Years Ago
no I am trying to find a 1.08 4100, I am sure with the smaller carb and the duraspark its gonna run perfect.

problem is finding a 1.08 small block 4100.... I have a 1.08 mustang 4100 but it needs both ventrui clusters as they have cracked brbutt outer tubes, and need secondary shaft and throttle plate, cause I destoryed them while gettin them unstuck.

also I got a duraspark disturbitor off ebay, its got a 10L tab in it, with that I can set my initial advance to 20BTDC, I wonder if it will be too much.

I just went through my box of 'late model" stuff in the garage. Found one (Duraspark upper rotor shaft) that has a 13L slot on one side and an 18L in the other. The 13L slot measures .430 - .4375 is 7/16". Get out your file! That would give you a 26° plus your initial.

I can hardly believe you can get away with 40° total - if I tried that on Arizona gas everything I own would rattle like a box of marbles.

I am currently using the 13L one and I set the initial timing to 13degreed 38 total, no pinging, WOT all the way to 6000rpm, maybe the big carb thats jetted for a 390 gives too much gas and cools the combustion chamber? anyway it runs fine at 39 total.
