Hi Eddie,  The dowel is not absolutely necessary, but it should be there.  Why not call John and ask him to get one out of another block, you will probably want to pick it up since you're getting ready to install the new engine.  If you had more time he could mail it, of course.  He's a great guy, probably didn't even notice it was missing.  God bless you and your family.

Good luck, Nick Brann, K.C., MO

Eddie:

Look at it this way.  If Ford didn't think they were needed, would they have gone to the expense of putting them in?

I feel like the are needed as the belhousing bolt holes are slightly large as it uses the dowels to provide proper alignment.

They are what does the actual alignment, and you will eevntually break bellhousings, flywheels, are wipe out front trans bushings and seals.

I bought a 2.3 mustang driver once that was missing the dowels and it constantly wiped out flywheels until I figued out the were missing.

Thanks Guys.  Yeah I drove to El Cajon ( John's) and got the dowel. It was still in the test stand.  Glad to have it and be right, just trying to save 4 hour round trip.  Will keep everyone posted, hope to fire it this weekend..YHEEEEEEE

God Bless and Many Thanks
