hello. i am brand new to classic cars. i just acquired a 1954 crestline victoria. approximately how much would it cost to rebuild my 239 y block v8? i wouldn't be doing any of the work myself. i would need a shop to do 100% of the work. also, approximately how much would a transmission place charge to rebuild the fordomatic transmission? lastly, does anyone know of anywhere in louisville kentucky that i can get them both rebuilt? if not louisville how about atlanta georgia? thanks for any help.

If there is a local machine shop you favor they should be able to handle the engine overhaul.If you dont have one I would consult the local circle track guys and see who they use.I see new parts for that engine(both styles) on the internet.As far as cost who knows? Until the engine is apart and inspected you cant tell.

While the machine work will be the same costs as for most other engines, look for additional expenses to be incurred when you purchase some of the engine parts that are specific to the 239/256 Y-Blocks. Some of those parts will be the pistons, oil pump, water pump, fuel pump, camshaft and camshaft bearings. Those parts that are common to the other Y engines such as rod and main bearings and tappets are readily available and pricing is in line with their availability. The head gaskets are unique to the 239/256 engines but are available through Best Gasket and others.

If it is any help I had a local machine shop I use a lot prep a 292 block a few months ago.they tanked,bored,honed and,decked the block,installed cam bearings and core plugs,tanked the cylinder heads and decked them.Total was 546.54.
