I came across a vintage Mallory ZC311A distributor in my garage. I was told this was for a Y-block.Can anyone tell me exactly what it's for? and what they go for? I have no need for it and want to get rid of it to buy some other parts.

The technical section works for the question you’re asking. Once you know for sure what you have, then simply repost with a price in the classifieds section.
While I’m not up on the Mallory numbers, double check the length of the distributor shaft from the block seating surface to the bottom of the gear. For a Y, that distance should be ~4.900” with the gear pushed up towards the distributor body. Then check the number of teeth on the gear itself which for the ’55-’64 Y’s should be fourteen. And also insure that the bottom of the distributor accommodates a ¼” hex oil pump shaft and is not slotted. Slotted makes it a 1954 Ford/Mercury distributor or a later model marine application.
As Paul suggests, posting a picture may further help the identification process.
