I finally have all my parts gathered up in my garage now to actually start thinking about putting this baby together. I have heard that the lubrication system in these engines were the weak link. I have seen posts about mods on the chain squirters on the rocker feeds. I am likely going to run with the Isky 290/.505",108 LSA, solid lifter cam and spring set with some portwork. What mods (if any) would be recommended for this build from some y-block veterans??? bare in mind that this is a budget build that will run 1/8 mile at a time with a peak of probably 7000rpm.

The Y oiling system is a good one other than the restricted oil going to the top end. To give that top end oil a shot in the arm, then make the groove in the center cam journal deeper, use a center cam bearing that is grooved on its O.D. (Schumann supplies these), or machine the center cam bearing hole in the block with a groove that interconnects the three oil holes that are there.

Might not want to tend to make the engine too much of a "budget build," if it's going to be a race engine running to 7000 RPM!.. For instance, the original std valve train was designed for 5400 RPM & the pistons are cast...
