I took the complete stock heater box, heater coil and motor ductwork out of my '56 Ford Vicky. I am installing a Classic Auto Air HVAC system in my car so I will sell you my old unit. I am using my original dash mounter heater control but I have every thing else. I can send pics if you are interested. you will need to replace some of the flexible ducting and rubber firewall seals, but you can get all that from Mac's auto Parts.

Their system looks like a vintage air unit at about twice the price but for that you get brackets, 90 degree fittings, and parts to use your old controls. Trying to decide which way to go.

KCBLUE can you post a photo of the compressor mounted after you are done. Classics photo of it is on a Windsor in a 55. They told me they didn't have a photo of the installation on a Y- Block.... Thanx

Larry, I'm getting ready to do the same thing and I'd appreciate any photos. I'm torn between leaving all the factory heater stuff and placing a 4 hole Mustang look-a-like unit under the dash or replacing everything like your stating. It would be great to see pictures as you go along and how much needs to be removed especially where the blower unit is now and under the dash. I would hope you can keep the right side air vent like the left one. Mine has the vacuum can on the intake to open the valve for heat and I wonder if that stays? If it gets too much for this site; if you want you can send the photos to my E-Mail gmc6power@earthlink.net Thanks
One other thing I don't know if you are going to an alternator or have done so but a gentleman I met a car get-together on Sunday mornings has a 1963 Ford Fairlane Sport Coupe with factory air and it has a 30 amp stock generator and he says he has never ever had a problem even in the desert and he's had the car for over 20 years here in So Cal. Good Luck on your installation I'm sure there are others here wanting to see it...

Vintage Air has a mounting bracket kit for the Y Block (PN 131111). It fits engines with OEM single groove balancer and a 2 groove crankshaft pulley. The kit mounts the AC compressor down low where the generator would mount and the alternator is mounted above. AC compressor has its own v-belt and the alternator & water pump share one.

I looked at the Summit Racing on-line catalog and found another AC/Alt bracket kit that I haven't seen before. Also a Vintage Air bracket kit P/N VTA-15114-VFB. This mounts the compressor on right up high and the alternator on the left up high. Might be easier to work on.

Rono...Unfortunately it won't work with power steering...that is mounted on the left side of the engine and uses the damper pulley groove.

The Classic Air kit includes the compressor & alt brackets as part of the kit. their on-line pictures show a 302 installed in a 55-56 Ford, but they have kits for the Y-Block like I have. The compressor mounts low on the passenger side and the alt mounts above it. With the the compressor on the passenger side you have shorter & neater lines directly to the HVAC under dash unit. You will not need the vacuum valve because their unit comes with all the necessary controls for the heater; and yes, you do get to keep your right (passenger) side fresh air control. You will be using the original heater control and the system comes with new cables to operate the vent damper. That is part of the reason I went with the Classic Auto Air system because everything is included. I didn't look at cost of other brands. I did look at everyones features. I like this one the best. I didn't want anything hanging under the dash. I wanted a cleaner look. I fact I am installing all my discharge vents in the dash not under the dash.
