Hello I am getting ready to have my 63 f100 reprinted inside and out and the guy doing it for my( in exchange for me doing some custom woodwork for him) lucky me haha anyways he told me the carpet just inside the door at the step is not original. Now I wouldn't know as I was not around when this truck was new. Can anyone clarify as to weather it was there or not. I am planning on showing the truck so I want it as original as possible. Also was it common to have the inner fenders on the front and back coated with the truck bed liner stuff? that's what he mentioned doing. Any help would be appreciated.

The door step is just painted body color from the factory. As for the inner fenders, I assume you mean underneath? That would just be standard undercoating which we did a lot of at the dealer where I worked. But we did the whole underneath of the vehicle, not just the fenders. I personally like undercoating, it helps with sound deadening also, but I don't see it done very often in restoration.

Using bed liner on the underside of the fenders and running boards is a better replacement for the old dealer applied rubber undercoating. It is tough enough to handle rocks slung off the tires and seals out moisture. It also prevents "stars" from appearing in the paint on fiberglass fenders.
