We have the stock mechanical fuel pump on our 56 Ranch Wagon with the vacuum ports on top to operate the wipers, etc. The pump is leaking and I would just rather replace it than try to rebuild it because we are going with electric wipers and a 57 or later distributor anyway. Would the Carter M6905 mechanical pump for FE motors (352,390, 428) be a good choice? I know they are only 1/4 NPT inlet and outlet, but the motor is a stock 312 with a single Edlebrock #1406 carb.
Thanks,
Rono

1/4" npt is for pipe with a inner diameter of nearly 3/8". As long as the fittings used for the fuel line are sized right, that pump should be plenty.

Thanks Charlie. I'm sure the fittings on the stock pump are for 5/16" hose.

From what I have seen here in the past, a lot of people have used the 428 pump with success.

Went to electric wiper motor on my wagon and when I did the rebuild swap I ordered a new one from Summit Racing. Didnt have the extra vacuum ports and works great. About 40 bucks if I remember. Over a year now and works perfect. I'll do the same for the truck motor when I install it in the Monster Hauler.

I use a Holley high flow mechanical pump for a 390. Works great and straight bolt in.

Also used the Holley for the 390, running 3x2 carbs so put an in line pressure regulator.
Runs great.
