Dave: for clarification, the early Neutral Safety Switches are just that, they operate in "Neutral" only. You want a 1959  one, and that it operates in Park also?  A 1960 or later won't fit?

What I'm finding and what my owners manual says the car should start in P or N seems to be some confusion. I did find one just a while ago NOS I am hoping that it will allow me to start in P thanks for your interest.

1958 and later start in Park and Neutral. A 1958 Switch which appears identical to the 55-57 Switch may be substituted for the original Switch on a 55-57  allowing the Car to be started in P and N. If this is in fact a 2 speed Fordomatic  the Part # you are looking for is B9AZ-7A247-A. There are 2 listed on Ebay-not cheap though.Have a look and see if they are what you are looking for. You could also do a Google search and try and find one cheaper that way.

Oldcar do you by chance know the part number for the 58 switch? I'd like to start my 56 in P.

I did a little searching and came up with the following numbers:
B7A-15812-E
B7AZ-7A247-A
B8AZ-7A247-A
sw-397
Are these correct?

Any part# with B7A or B7AZ is for 55-57 and only starts in neutral .These are now available as repros. The 58 switches are B8A and there were several part # changes and updates.I believe the SW 380 was one of the changes. There is one on Ebay right now. Listing # 361248345380. You may have to change one terminal  wire end on the existing Wire or might not. These are not easy to find as they are not available as repo's.It was also used on some 1961 Ford Trucks under part# C1TF-7A247-A I think the # is.. UPDATE- The 61 # is C1TF-7A247-A or SW 781. There are 3 C1TF-7A247-A on Ebay right now going cheap-$30.00. They don't realize they will retrofit a 55-58 Ford and start in P and N. Grab one as they are cheap compared to the 58 B8A # Switches.

Thanks for the clarifications. I have seen some of these NOS switches sell even below $20 in a few past listings that I've missed out on. I want to avoid any repros since the ones I've seen were made in China and nothing made in China will ever knowingly go on my car.
Thanks again Oldcar.

Here's a 58 switch for $28.50.http://www.ebay.com/itm/1958-NOS-FORD-GEAR-SHIFT-NEUTRAL-SWITCH-NIB-B8A-FOMOCO-/151674116532?hash=item23507b59b4&vxp=mtr
I'm keeping watch for one for around $20

Just for clarification.. Is the 1959, B9AZ.... switch a stand alone switch & not suitable for 1955-57 retrofit?
By oldcarmark - 10 Years Ago
Hi Paul!  Completely different Switch.  Looks like a one Year only application. The Switches I described for 55-57 retrofit look identical to original except the internal connections work in P and N. I changed mine several Years ago and actually forgot that original only started in N until  I read this Post.
