I just got a set of duel exhaust manifolds and noticed the passenger side has a hole for a choke tube. I am not using a factory intake and carb so does the hole need to be plugged ? Don't know if this helps but they are from a 59 engine.

If the hole goes all the way through, then you have to plug it.

I’ll have to disagree with Paul on this one. That ¼” hole in the manifold by design does not connect directly to the exhaust flow. As a result, it does not need to be plugged if not using it. The exception to this is if the manifold is internally cracked or busted thus allowing exhaust flow into that hole. There is a vacuum on the choke side of the carburetor that’s pulls fresh air up through the exhaust manifold which in turn in simply allows the air that’s passing through the manifold to be heated before going on to the choke coil on the carburetor.

Thanks Ted. That will save me the trouble of trying to weld the hole shut.

I guess I learned something new.
