What would be the best way to test the fuel pump?

Fuel side of pump testing; With a tee in the pressure line going to the carburetor and a fuel pressure gauge hooked up to that tee in the line, the pressure should be 3½-5½ psi with the engine running at 500 rpms. Vacuum producing side of pump testing: With the inlet side of the vacuum portion of the pump plugged and a vacuum gauge on the other port, the vacuum should be at least 10”Hg with the engine running at 500 rpms.
