what causes one wheel to be prone to early lock up? (Ford with pwr brakes, 1963 Mercury, Daniel's car) but I suppose its not a problem confined to just my son's car. thanks,Mark

Any leaky fluids on the brake pads will cause that, a leaky wheel cylinder, rear end seal and gear oil and I have even seen where grease from a front wheel bearing slung out and got on shoes and caused it.

thanks for the suggestions; don't have of the problems you mentioned... I wonder if the shoes are catching slightly on the backing plate tabs... maybe I should put a spot of high temp grease there...??

Yes - grease the tabs. Also check the rear brakes - leaks, wet shoes, rust in the cylinders etc as a bad functioning rear brake can cause the car to veer to one side.
Remember, if the car veers to one side, it may be the opposite side that has a problem
