Can I replace my teapot carb with a new holly using an adapter rather? , rather  than go to all the expense of finding a 57 intake manifold that would make it easier.
Thanks for your help!

You can find an adapter for that purpose at Speedway Motors over in Lincoln, Nebraska. Once the carb is on there you'll have to figure out a distributor arrangement.

The teapot carb is usually coupled with a Load-o-Matic distributor that utilizes specific vacuum signals from ports of that carb. When you put the later style carb on, it won't have the signals to make that work - so a different distributor will be needed.

As Steve brings up, the 1955 distributor (Load-O-Matic) is vacuum only which makes the vacuum signal from the modern carburetors (1957 and up for the Fords) incompatible with that particular distributor.  Replacing your current LOM distributor with a Y distributor from a 1957 and up application will provide you with a distributor that incorporates both mechanical and vacuum advance capability.

If you are looking for the cost of admission with new stuff - then take a look at these parts:
Speedway Motors - small pattern carb adapter p/n 1351935B (about $20.00 plus shipping)
Cardone - rebuilt Y-block distributor for a 292 CID 1964 F100 pickup - p/n 30-2808 (about $99.00 plus shipping) doesn't include cap
For the distributor - you might find a used part for less from one of the guys on the forum.
Then go looking for a carb ............ My favorite recommendation is the 390 cfm Holley but many will work.

Greenbird56,
What jetting do you recommend for the 390 CFM. I'm running a 272 std bore.

I think the best answer to the jetting question ....... is to fire it up and run it. The ignition timing - float settings - any number of things will make the carb be lean or rich ....... give it a whirl with what you've got and go from there. I believe the initial "kit" of parts that comes installed on the 390 is sized for about a 300 cubic inch engine. That should work with a 272 just fine.
