I recently swapped a 65 Galaxie 60 AMP alternator (old school with an external regulator) on the 57 Bird and it works great. I need to install a 5 OHM resistor across the the generator light bulb terminals to "excite" the regulator in case the bulb burns out. Were can I find a proper resistor and what kind? Radio Shack? Thanks.

If your Shack is still open, and has inventory, they'll have it. Mine are either empty or gone, so I'm buying online.

Some of the old units would "self energize" at 3000 rpm or so. Might pull the bulb and see. Not going to be much use unless you have a volt meter, though.

I think it actually supposed to be a 15 OHM resistor. I think Radio Shack is still open here.

Thanks Roger,

The Radio Shack in Watsonville, Ca near me is still doing business and had a stack of pull-out drawers of resistors. $1.62 for a 5 pack of 15 OHM resistors.
