Finally was able to get over to Glen's place this week to pick up the 292 and steel crank to begin my twin turbo project.  Most of the pre-fitment work is already done, via a running 292 I picked up a couple weeks ago.  I should be able to start getting stuff rounded up soon for this thing.  I will be having the block bored to 3.80 or 3.81, depending on which piston and rod combo I decide on.  Plans call for a CNC machined I-beam of some kind, unless I find an H-beam I like.  Forged pistons with a nice thick crown for a bunch of boost.  I plan on 12-14 to get started, with 20-25 to come.  Working on getting a set of big chamber posted heads right now, will upsize valves on exhaust side, standard 1.92 intakes.  Will be lightweight valves with good springs and seals.  Still working out the camshaft right now, should make scary power.  I will be putting a pair of small T3 turbos on the running 292 I have now, just to learn fuel and ignition basics, with about 8-10 lbs..The real bullet will get a pair of hybrid T3-T4 turbos, and adjustable wastegates so I can play with power output.  MSD distrib with MSD ignition box, boost retard and boost referenced fuel pump should make it all work together.  I am starting to see the lights at the end of the tunnel on this project, at least as far as the hard parts go anyway.  I want to stay with a toploader 4 speed, but may end up going to a C4 automatic.  I will post some updates whenever I can, and will add photos as I can as well....wish me luck Y's guys, this is gonna be a hairy ride methinks...

Someone on this site recently referred me to these rods.

I forget the specs but they sound right for a Y-Block with minimum work and the price isn't bad. Chuck in NH

Jim,

Eagle makes rods, and with turbos you probably want the C4/C6. Keep your foot in it all the way through, rather than lifting to shift.

Who lifts to shift?w00t

Seriously though, I have a pretty radical trans and inline shifter, with a good clutch and scattershield, and speedshifting, I could probably do ok.  I may go ahead and build a C4 for it though, just as a backup....

Jim,

Guys with column shifts!!w00tw00t Also they run rev limiters. You may not want to use one of those on a draw thru, tends to go BANG when it fires!!

I will be using a custom built blow through setup, with some kind of rev limiter and blow off valve to keep bad things from happening.  I am really hoping to not have to put an automatic in it, but if I have to I will I guess.

A couple weeks ago, I had bought another 292, sight unseen, off ebay.  Since I was running late last week when I stopped by Glen's, I couldnt swing back over to Jackson MS to get it.  I went today...man.  I really lucked out.  I saw photos of it, listed as a 1957 big truck 292.  It had later valve covers on it, so I took a chance and bid 125 on it, hoping that maybe it was a later 292...It was.  For my $125, I got another steel crank, a set of B9TE (replacements for the 471s), and about a 2 year old overhaul with new pistons, etc.  Talk about tickled to death, man...It ended up being a `61 block.  Now between that, and the parts I got from Glen, I have enough to start on my Evil Twin project.Cool

Good going James with the other engine, if you keep it up you'll have as much "y" stuff laying around as the rest of us. My thinking, you can't get too much. What kind of exhaust manifolds does that engine have, if they are rams horns and in good condition, I want first shot at them.

Time your done here Jimmy, you'll be throwing rocks at those FE thingies!!w00t

Glen, for whatever reason, it has the earlier manifolds, like a `56 with the crossover.  I double checked the block and heads, to be sure I had seen the numbers correctly.  Man, I think I got a pretty good score on that one.  If I find a set of the rams horns, I'll pick them up.  I am beginning to find a little more of that stuff now, so I may run across some.  I love it, this thing is beginning to take shape before my eyes. . .methinks it's gonna be a monster.
