Valve Cover Modification Question

I remember reading somewhere that the four little punched tabs on the inside of the valve covers are traps for gunk and that it's a good idea to grind them off. Can't find the reference but wonder what you guys think of this. Is it a good idea? Wonder what those tabs are for?

Finally getting back into my Y rebuild and '56 F100 resto after too many crazy set-backs.

The idea was to remove that whole thin strip that the tabs are punched from, the gunk would get trapped behind that strip. The strip itself aided in gasket alignment. If you glue the gasket in place on the valve cover
the strip is not needed.

Ah, that makes much more sense. The whole thin strip looks like a gunk trap... especially since some of the weak attachment points have broken loose. Off it comes then! Thanks Barry.
