Does anyone know a good source for a 292 water pump that will mate with Mummert's aluminum timing cover housing? We are on our third new water pump that don't fit.

I think most Chinese water pumps won't fit right. Who ever commissioned them to build the parts didn't have a original drawing, so, they are different in some subtle ways. I think the best would be to use a original Ford casing, rebuilt with modern ceramic seal, and modern bearings.
I can still get new water pumps here, made by a company called URBA, that was the official Ford supplier.Bought two of them just in case.
Those, as are still being built, have the modern seal from the factory.

Where doesnt ,it fit right, have you spoken to john? and cant you make a pump fit?

It is interesting. My engine is a 1961 292 truck engine but water pumps for that type of engine didn't fit right. The bolt holes didn't line up with those in the timing cover housing. The solution was a water pump for a T-bird. Lined right up.

The light duty trucks are the same, as far as the mounting pattern goes. I'm pretty sure heavy duty is as well.
1954 engines had a smaller water pump. Maybe the manufacturer is producing those by mistake, or they are mispackaged.
Do you happen to have the pump off of the truck 292 to see how it compares?

Thats weird as all pumps are same bolt pattern except 239. we know the truck pump has the larger shaft/bearing and ribs in casting. strange one indeed.

Bob. I’ve been using the generic rebuilt water pumps on the aluminum timing covers without any issues. I've simply been ordering pumps for a 1957-1962 Ford car when needing a 5/8" pilot and pumps for a '63-'64 pickup or truck engine when needing a 3/4" pilot. Can you provide any details on the ‘new’ pumps you were having trouble with?

Ted the first water pump I bought was A1 Cardone (P/N 58-235) from Summit Racing. Not what the second pump that Tony got from the NAPA store. The pump that worked was a NAPA (P/N 58-200). I did look a visual comparison of the first pump and look like a match for the one that came off but I didn't test fit it on the engine.

Those are both remanufactured pumps, not new. Both Cardone. The Napa pump is simply rebranded.
In the applications, 58-235 is indicated to fit '54-'62, including 239, which is clearly an error, and probably is the smaller pump which is actually '54 only, which is why it didn't fit.
58-200 is '55-'62, Which should bolt to your truck motor, but the pulley will not fit properly. You will need a car pulley as well

Thanks Charlie...I have a modified billet aluminum pulley that fits the water pump.
