Has anyone one the forum done this?
That is, utilize a Ford AOD and adapted to a YBlock?
I'm not interested in any GM trans stuff or Ford C4
Thanks
Jim

If you search the forum for Bendtsen you should find some helpful posts. I think their website is transmissionadapters.com and he also has installation instructions somewhere on the site.

Two friends of mine out an AOD in their early TBirds.  They are very happy with the conversion.  They had to modify the X member a little besides making up a new rear mount.  Seems to be a lot of linkage that needs to be set up????

I've run an AOD for years and love it. The adapter works well and comes with a high torque starter. Adjusting the TVI is important. Pressure must be set with a gauge prior to driving. You can burn up an AOD in a couple of miles if its not setup right. I used a Lokar cable and bracket for mine. I also had to modify the trans mount and have a new drive shaft made. Love the gears! I'm running a 370 rear gear and have problems running in overdrive below 50mph. The engine is too far down in the power curve, about 1800RPM. I only run the OD on the highway but can cruise at 65 at around 2500RPM. I'm planning on installing a 411 rear so I can use the OD on state roads.

Don't know if he's still around, but Gary Croan, Bristol Engineering, used to make AOD adapters. Costa Mesa, CA?

Further to Mikers post, Gary Croan just ran an Ad in Y-Blk Magazine.. he's at 949-722-1122  in Costa Mesa CA 92627  Does AOD. transmissions & apparently specializes in early T.Bird repairs & handling mods etc.

Don't have an AOD, but will give a +1 for Bendtsen. Used it for a TH 350 behind the Y. Adapter is 1st rate and bulletproof-Had a few issues with install and called and ended up talking to Mr. Bendtsen. Sent the parts needed right away free of charge.
