I am rewiring my 56 Victoria, all done except I'm having problems with the gas gauge and the temp gauge.... Using an E-Z wiring harness... Has anbody else had this problem? I am connecting the wire coming out of fuse box to one terminal and ground to the other ...nothing ..... I am wondering if the wire needs to go to acc. side of ignition switch first? I have no juice when tested with a test light.... But it seems like wires that run through a fuse box should have juice, right!! Was told this morning the original gauges are 6 volt and there should be a rectangular reducer near speedo... I have two dashes, and I see no reducer! Does anybody have any ideas? Stock gauges, 12 volt system ...Thanks Sam

I believe the second wire goes to the sending unit in the tank that acts as a variable ground. The lead to the guage is hot when the switch is on and pbuttes to ground through the sender. I thought the 56 guages were 12v. I think the 6v gauges in a 12v car deal started in 57. I'm sure someone out here knows for sure. Chuck

The gauges in a 56 are definitely 12 volt.As has been stated,56 was the only year Ford used 12 volt gauges.
