Leaking teapot

Found out the hard way that gaskets in a running carb will still shrink if stored for a few years, even if carb is put away wet and sealed in plastic.



Question: I can easily change the obviously leaking top-cover and seat-cover gaskets (towering inferno), but what about the rest? I notice my low-millage fuel pump sometimes has trouble keeping up (fuel-bowl level dropping). Could be pump lost prime when fuel line was disconnected, and air was temporarily trapped (?), or I have serious gasket leaks inside the carb? Should I just bite the bullet and do total rebuild? Will the only penalty be low gas mileage otherwise?

Dan,

           The upper gasket is very straightforward. If your fuel pump won't keep the carb full, I'd check the needle and seat for crap or sticking (Viton), You may have an issue with the fuel pump.
