I have purchased 3 #4487 fuel pumps from ebay, they just don't last due to being nos and all the gaskets seem to be the problem, received one this week and it won't work so I'm looking for something reliable.
I've owned the car 8 years and I know this is the 3rd time the fuel pump has been the problem.
Any recommendations 55 Ford Fairlane 272 ?

Holley 12-390-11 these are new and work great. These are not cheap and work on 390 FEs and yblocks. I'm running them on all my 292s and 312s. I'm with you on NOS worn out seals etc.

If you need it to be original, then there are not many options - you pretty much have to have the original rebuilt, hopefully with good gaskets and seals.
If looking original is not a concern, then Speedpro's suggestion is just fine.

Buying nos parts that have gaskets and seals and are used with gasoline is a fools errand because of the ethanol and the fact that the materials are over 60 years old.. Gaskets and seals must be replaced with pieces that are ethanol proof. Same with rubber hoses.

Rebuild them yourself, they're not hard to do, even the double action type.

Where can you get parts? I have a Carter glass bowl pump that I bought (NOS) that is needing rebuilt.

I'll agree with Gary and Charlie above - find a Ford "FE" engine pump to use on your motor. If I had a good version to recommend - I would - we need to keep such info handy on here. My buddy just got one for his '56 truck (with 272) and then threw the box away before I got to it.
(1) Get the FE type pump from NAPA or some other reputable supplier. More likely to come with junk fuel resistant seals and gaskets.
(2) There are truck models (for a 390?) that even incorporate a "can" style of fuel filter with a replaceable element on the bottom. Makes a very clean installation.
(3) Plumb it with the "right stuff"- bent hard line as much as possible.
(4) Sell the oldies to someone who thinks they can fix'em...........................

I used a Carter M-3150. Works great. Just make sure the Arm is on Top of Cam not underneath when You install it. You will need a couple of Angle Fittings to get inlet and outlet facing correctly.

I have had good luck with the rebuild kits from this place. They claim ok for today's fuel.
