On the driver's side fender well area is mounted a vacuum cannister. How is it hooked up and to what?

No power brakes.
Maybe for the wipers?

Someone has added a canister likely for the Vacuum Wipers. Not an original Item.

Yes that works as well but it does work for power brakes as well, I have them on my 56 merc and they work for the brakes and wipers.

My Monterey has a vacuum canister. It's tied to the power brakes in case of vacuum loss from the intake manifold but no connection to the wipers which are operated from the dual action fuel pump.
