Timmy:

I made a tool from an old hacksaw blade, ground a hook near the end to hook and pull one "ear" of the clip.  Be careful, if it slips, you can gouge or scratch the door panel.  I have heard guys say they take a piece of cloth, like an old t shirt, wrap one layer around the base of the handle and see-saw it back and forth until it catches on the clip and pulls it out.  Good luck.

if you look at the Concors or Mac manual, they have tools. You could make one from a toyoya fender! If you make one, start with an old handle off the vehicle to get the dimensions.

Not sure about window crank, but if I remember correctly, repro door handles sold by T-bird suppliers are re-designed so clip works backwards (?). If you have a mixture of orig/new parts, it can really get confusing.

Also, there are several different tools being sold, and some just don't work as well as others (try CASCO). You should make a protective guard out of that clear plastic packaging that protects expensive items (the kind that is impossible to open without cutting yourself). Cut it the same shape, but just slightly wider than the tool, and slip it between the door panel and the handle.

I made a removal tool out of one of my wifes kitchen forks ( Don't tell her) by cutting the center tines out and bending the outer ones till I got the right dimensions.  You don't have to worry about scratching any thing that way.  Just the way I did it.

Go to Autozone or O'reillys and in the help aisle  theyhave the tool its $2.99. You can use a common screwdriver (a thin one) and place edge up against one side of retaining clip and tap gently and it should come out. Then you can make one like the other guys are saying.

Hi Timmy,If you are trying to use the tool that looks like a "fork" it won't work on the original door handles. The "shank" around the centre is too wide. That tool will work on replacement handles including the Ford replacements because they downsized the centre part where the clip fits in.I found out the same way you did.I had another tool I bought years ago which has a "hook" on each side of the fork and by trial and error eventually I can hook the clip and pull it out.All my handles now are Ford replacements.Much easier to remove!Regards Mark
