I put a round faced radio in my 1955 ford and hooked it up and when I turn it on it starts to make a buzzing sound I believe that is from the vibrator and the buzzing gets weaker. I turn it off and on again and sometimes the buzzing occurs for a few seconds and stops. I presume it is a bad vibrator or is there something else I should check and the radio does not play thanks.

Howdy,
It may be a bad vibrator. Those usually don't fail. It's more likely a shorted or severely leaky filter capacitor or a shorted selenium rectifier in the power supply . Those old filter caps dry out and usually cannot be used. If you're handy with a soldering iron and you have a schematic, you can buy new filter caps from these guys : Antique Electronic Supply and probably fix it. If you're not, then you may have to take it to someone and have them check it out. That last link I gave you will also have all the tubes, mechanical vibrators and solid state vibrators for that radio.
By the way, tubes don't fail all that often too. I have equipment that has original tubes in that are 50+ years old!
Tubes are just not very expensive any more. (unless you're looking for high power RF or audio tubes)
Regards,

Timmy,I see these radios on Ebay all the time in working condition for less than you will likely spend to fix this one.55 radios are far more available used than the one I am looking for for my 56.There is probably someone on this site that would make you a deal for one if you posted in the classifieds.Just a suggestion.Regards Mark

I also noticed that smoke was comming from the transformer so I presume I have a bad transformer. I found on the chassis fomoco 5bf370007 but I could not find any information on that number

Smoke coming out of the power transformer is usually pretty good evidence of shorted filter cap.
It's possible that the transformer is now toast...buy maybe not if you didn't let it go for long...
