I am sure this has been asked before but what does everyone recommed for oil in there Y-Block? I have heard that Rotella is the way to go but which weight? Does STP put back the zinc nessasary for a solid lifter motor?

Many Y-block owners say use 20w50 Rotella. My buddy who worked for years for Shell claims its the highest rated as far as detergents. Its meant for diesel motors where clean is required.I am using 15w40 in mine.

Mark  Just put in Rotella and Comp Cam breakin additive.  Got the Comp Cam stuff from Summit.  It's not just for breakin but can be used at each oil change.  Engine is new so using 15/40.  Hope this helps!!   Got  the Rotella at Wal-mart

Thanks,

15-40 Rotella it is, also I heard to stay away from Fram filters and get the Motorcraft filter. I am off to parts store in the morning and the Hot Rod Edsel will be back on the road!

You really do not need the additive. The Rotella T 15-40 has all the ZDDP you need.

NAPA Gold filters are also highly rated.

yeah NAPA filters are WIX .. don't get better than that does it? Geeze, but the oil? Damn I've been usin' Pennzoil for years and years. (50+) I do Mobil One in my Navigator but in everything else I've always used Pennzoil. Hell I've even got Pennzoil synthetic in my JD lawn tractor .. I use Pennzoil long life straight 30 wt in my '92 F250. That's all it's ever had except for the Motorcraft that it came from the factory with. I have never had a problem with fuel pump (gear driven) like some of my buddies that used Rotella ... But havin' said that, hell at 67 I guess I'm not too old to learn new tricks and if I find that Rotella does something Pennzoil doesn't I'll try it ... Thanks
