Looking for reviews of the AES gear reduction STARTER for my 292 so as to make a decisions whether or not to change out the stock starter.......which is heavy and sounds like an old cluncker when you turn it over...........I also need to say I have the fordomatic not a stick shift

I've had one for probably 15 years now, possibly over 25K miles, driven year round, without a single problem.

Thanks Charlie, did you pay anything close to the price they are charging now...........239.00?

I noticed Charlie you have a 3 speed..........I need some feedback from someone who has one with a Fordomatic...........auto tranny

The transmission does not matter.  I think I paid $129, but like I said, probably 15 years ago so what I paid is irrelevant now.

I have a 5 spd.  Where'd you see 3 speed?

I clicked on the picture of your truck and your profile came up and that's where I saw three speed.......

Isn't the flywheel number of teeth number a different count on the auto vs standard tranny?

Oh, indeed it does.  That info is way out of date, probably also from about 15 years ago.  I'll need to update.

I'll second what Charlie said. Mine's the same age, never a problem. I've used it on a 3 speed manual and an automatic without any problems for 12-13 years.

Thanks. I've often wondered about the use of 2 cap screws instead of 3 and the gear running off the front of the ring gear instead of the back side also.

Again, no problems in about 15 years, on a daily, year round driver.

I have a mini starter, (not sure it's the same brand) that is held on by two bolts with no problems.  been on over ten years.
