I have found that the wheelbase is 118 inches and length is 207 inchs(i think), but i have no clue about height or width..

I'm thinkin of converting everything onto a 89 crown vic chassis? can this be done?

If not, anyone have good info on someone who makes power discs, power rack and pinion, and 302/5.0 AOD swaps...

anyone do a MII front suspension swap?

You can try Fatman’s for a Mustang II front clip.  They make a nice unit for the ‘55/’56 Ford but I don’t the specific details for the one offered for a ’57.  Give ‘em a shout or look at their website.   Fatman’s

Some one has put a 57 ragtop on a crown vic chassis.   It is on the internet under 1957 fairlane convertable or something like that.  You might try to Google 1957 Ford.

Hi Apache

Just so you know we are not really into taking Y blocks out of our cars on this site. We tend to be putting them in the cars we have. We do put AOD's behind them though.

The Independent Front Suspension of these cars also tend to be pretty good and parts are not hard to get.  Generally beefed up springs and sway bars will do everything needed for a street driver.  Disc Brake conversions are also easy using Ford stock parts, Disc are virtual bolt ins by using Ford Granadas, Mercury Monarchs or Lincoln Versalles spindles. Others have done this swap and can provide exact info and I think you get about a 2" drop at the same time. So there is no need to replace the front suspension on these cars.

Re:  What Pat said, saw a convertible on Ebay done that way. Look under '57 Ford convertibles.

Doug, I agree with you totally, The suspensions on these cars are not bad at all and parts are easy to get. Just for starters put a rear sway bar on the rear and these old fords and they will handle like new ones, just make sure all the bushings and ball joints are in good shape. Like anything else parts do wear out.

ok...what about adding power steering to the car? can i keep my stock steering wheel, what do i need? how about rebuilding the 292, any good rebuild kits etc?

Your stock steering wheel will work fine with power steering. Type in 1957 ford parts on ebay and you should be able at some point to find a complete power steering set up for a 57 ford. They can get right pricy but they were a foctory item.Smile
