This goes out to John or anyone else who knows FMX's. My tranny (Fordo /FMX hybrid) started acting up yesterday it used to bang quite hard 2nd to 3rd gear ( due to the shift kit) wheather in drive or manually shifting. Now I will get a " slip bang" when it goes from 2nd to 3rd, whether in drive or shifting manually. I checked the tranny fluid, full, good and pink no burnt smell to it. I was told that I might be able to do a simple band adjustment externally on the tranny, that it may be slightly worn or am I looking at new clutches and a rebuild? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

Rob:

Check the vacuum modulator and tubes/hoses.  If there is fluid in the tubes, the diaphragm is leaking.  The only external band adjustment is the low/reverse band, it isn't involved in 2nd or high.  The 2nd gear band adjustment is inside the oil pan.  Have you talked to your trans builder?

John,

No I haven't talked to Gord yet, unfortunatley he lives about two hours away now, so it would be difficult to bring him the car.

I will check the modulator, but I don't think that is the issue. I have seen a broken vacuume hose when I had my model A (302/C4), with the leaky hose it had erratic, drawn out shifts (hesitant to shift). This time the tranny shifts when it is supposed to, only the revs will spike, then it bangs into gear, almost as if I were missing a shift on a manual tranny.

I think I might have smoked a clutch as I tend to drive it like a standard. Blush I like to manually shift it up through the gears and I will admit I occasionally wind it down when cruising (love to hear the old Y sing!). I know this is bad for the tranny and probably what did it in. Looks like I will have to find a local tranny shop! Ermm
