Anybody ever put a y-block in a '46-'48 Mercury? Is there interference between the distributor and the firewall?

Many years ago I put a 292 y-block in a 41 Ford coupe with a 39 Ford floor shift transmission. With the proper adapters, t-bird timing cover and oil pan a bolt in job. The work comes from linkage, exhaust and oil filter.
I put 50,000 miles on that car in 3 years.

just putting a 292 into a 1948 mercury pickup. you have to make sure the dlist can be removed when positioning it
. then you us the proper dual ex manifold on pas sidei used the right hand ex manifold for single ex for the left side ,as it gives more room to do the exhaust on the drivers side remote oil filter may make things easier.

Thanks Lou and 2721955 Meteor. I've never experienced a "bolt in job" before Lou and I hope I do this time. I do have the Hurst front engine mount and the offenhauser engine/transmission adapter to adapt it to the original transmission. I have a 5 speed adapted to the flathead currently in the car using a Cornhusker adapter. My intent is to mate the Cornhusker adapter to the Offenhauser transmission adapter and use the original clutch linkage. Hope it all works. Thanks again guys.

To use the Hurst motor mounts you need a t-bird timing case cover, and a pair of flatheard rubber engine mounts, you also need a truck or t-bird rear slump oil pan to clear the front axle.

A truck timing cover works for a Hurst mount also.

Thanks Lou and Lord Gaga. I have the truck timing cover and truck pan. Putting the engine together now. Getting it ready to do during the winter.

You'll have to notch the front of the light duty truck pan for frame clearance. The H.D. 7 qt. truck pan will not work because of drag link interference, even with a dropped pittman arm.
