Does anyone know where a guy can get the t bird valley pan, grommet and tea kettle breather tube connection to convert from the side mounted black breather to a valley pan breather?
Thank you

I might have the parts you need, why not just change over to a PVC system

That’s my goal. I have an older 292 block that had a breather tube in the side of the block. Lots of oil dripping making a mess of a new resto. So from what I read, I should block that up and install a valley pan than has the hole towards the firewall where I can install the PVC valve? Maybe I don’t need the tea pot?

From what I read I could put a hose on the tea pot, add an in line valve and connect it to the intake manifold in front of the carb?

As you can tell, I’m new at y block tricks.
Any advise would be appreciated.

I was told the valley pan from a 56 t bird would do the trick?

First, I don't think the Bird set up will fit in a sedan because of clearance issues with the firewall.  The TBird has a lot of room between the firewall and the back of the engine.  Could be wrong for a 55/56, but with a 312 in my 54 Ford I know it won't fit.

Go the PCV set up.  Any 55-56-57 Tbird valley pan will fit.  If you want a nice aluminum pan with the hole in the back, try John Mummert.

The valley pans from the 1960-1964 cars and pickups equipped with 292’s are almost identical to the ’55-57 TBird valley pans with the exception of the oil fill tube being longer or shaped differently to clear the air conditioning compressor.  These valley pans work with either the rear mounted road draft tubes or a PCV valve.  This pair of pictures shows the factory connection point for the PCV hose where the PCV valve itself is threaded into the intake in front of the carb.

Ok, thanks for the help guys. I’ve got a valley pan with PVC connection on the back toward the fire wall.

For connecting the PCV valve into the intake, the info shows connecting to the vacuum connection just in front of the carb. Currently there is a brass fitting in this tap which feeds the vacuum for the breaks and the vacuum down to the fuel pump / windshield wipers.

Can I tee the new PVC valve into the break line vacuum hose?

It looks like the only existing vacuum connection on the manifold is the tapping just in front of the carb?

If you already have a valley pan with pvc connection why did you want a t bird one?  Carl

Just ordered the valley pan this morning off of e-bay. Should be in my hands by Saturday. Now I need to find the right sized grommet and also find out if I can tee into the main vacuum line serving the vacuum assist brakes.

.When You convert it You will be removing the Road Draft Tube Assembly. Some Members buy a Block off Plate. You can use a Cup type Frost Plug to plug the Hole and screw in a couple of Bolts with flat Washers to fill the tapped Holes in the Block.

That’s not a bad idea. Thank you.

If things work out right, I’ll have a blank off plate in my hands from the local fab shop by Friday. I noticed the gasket is not quite symmetrical. The holes are offset a little.
Still wondering about being able to tee the new road draft PVC valve into the brake vacuum line? Don’t want to find out the hard way on that question Smile

you can buy a plate that goes under your carb to hook up to

A VW fuel pump block off plate will fit the breather hole in the block perfectly.

Torv,

This will answer/solve your problem. If you have the ECG-B manifold.

Why not just fix the problem?  The road draft breather is leaking for one of two reasons both simple fixes, the return tube in the breather is clogged, or the breather cover is not sealing because it's on wrong, bent, or has a bad gasket. Take the assembly off the engine, clean it, inspect it and replace it with a new gasket on the engine, and where the cover sits. I've bought at least 10 y-block Fords that i was told had leaking engines that I fixed by cleaning the road draft breather.

That one only fits the A manifold.  The Tbird suppliers sell one for the B manifold

What valve are you planning on using?

Off the top of my head..running the PVC connected to the brake booster line, may not be a good idea, but I've never seen any definate info on that, so?
