Now that it's finally warm weather, I'm reminded of this. The trans cooling lines on my car have been disconnected from the Rad by the previous owner, and reconnected to a small cooler in front of the Rad. My question is, was there any advantage in doing that?.. Thanks.

Would depend on the volume of the add on cooler compared to the internal radiator tank. It is probably better but at least wont hurt. You could replumb the lines to use both if your trans seems to run hot. Chuck in NH

Unless you insist on originality, leave it that way.  The trans will be cooled by ambient air instead of 180 degree water, and you will remove the trans heat from the engine cooling system.
